Dr Borja García
Borja García is a Senior Lecturer in Sport Management and Policy at Loughborough University (United Kingdom). In 2005, as a PhD student, he founded Sport&EU together with An Vermeersch and David Ranc to create a forum to develop the nascent academic interest on EU sports policy and law. Borja has worked as executive director of the association since its foundation. His main academic interests are the European Union sports policy, the governance of sport, and the political activism of football fans. Borja has published extensively in international academic journals, such as Journal of Common Market Studies, Journal of European Public Policy and the International Sports Law Journal. Borja is currently a member of the Advisory Board of Supporters Direct Europe, building on his academic work leading the ground-breaking FREE Research project, which investigated the social importance of football for European identity thanks to funding from the European Commission’s FP 7. In his spare time Borja enjoys running and supporting Nottingham Forest.
