David Ranc

David Ranc is doctoral candidate at the University of Cambridge (Trinity Hall and Centre of International Studies). In 2005-2006, he was a visiting fellow sponsored by the Wiener-Anspach foundation to work with the GEPSS (Groupe d'études pluridisciplinaires sport et société) at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium).

In 2006, he was awarded the Michele Diana award for young scholar by the CESH (European Committee for Sport History).

His thesis (under the direction of Dr Geoffrey Edwards), ‘Identification, Football and the Press in Europe after the Bosman ruling (1995)’ compares the nature and forms of supporters’ identification with their club, and their evolution after 1995.
It is based on three case studies: Glasgow (Celtic and Rangers football clubs), Paris (Paris Saint Germain) and London (Arsenal).

David Ranc holds a BA in History (Licence d'Histoire) from the Université de Paris X-Nanterre, an MA from Sciences-Po, (diplôme de l'IEP de Paris) and a MPhil in European Studies from the University of Cambridge.
