Borja García

Borja García has been a PhD student at Loughborough University’s Department of Politics, International Relations and European Studies since 2004. Under the supervision of Professor David Allen, Borja is researching on the origins and development of the European Union’s policy on sport (both professional and amateur), as an example of agenda-setting and expansion of the EU’s competencies into new areas. He is also focusing on the effect of European policies on the governance of sports organisations in Europe. Before starting his PhD, Borja graduated with an MA (‘very good’) in Political and Administrative Studies at the College of Europe (Bruges, Belgium) in 2004. He has also completed a MA (with merit) on European Politics at the University of Leeds in 2003. A graduate in Media Studies and Journalism, he has worked for several nation-wide media in Spain. His broader research interests include Sport in the European Union, European Integration theories, Interest Representation in the EU and questions of democratic deficit, identity and civil society participation at European level.
