An Vermeersch

An Vermeersch has a Master in Law (Ghent University, 1998) and an Advanced Master in European law (Ghent University, 1999). After a five month traineeship at the European Commission (DG Environment), she worked as advisor at the cabinet of the Flemish Minister for Sports, where she was involved in the preparation of the Belgian presidency of the EU. In November 2001, she became a full-time assistant at the European Institute, Ghent University
The research of An Vermeersch concentrates on the institutional aspects of the EU integration process, the vertical division of competences and sports law. She is preparing a PhD on 'De uitbreiding van het Europees Gemeenschapsrecht naar nieuwe domeinen: implicaties van en voor sport' (New competences for the European Community: consequences from and for sport).
