The Association for the Study of Sport and the European Union is extremely happy to announce that our flagship event, the annual conference, will be back to the United Kingdom, the birthplace of Sport&EU in 2018. Our 13th annual conference will be organised by the Centre for Sports Law Research at Edge Hill University, near Liverpool, on 3-4 July 2018. Please put the dates in your diary, as we plan to organise the largest Sport&EU conference to date, in order to re-launch the activities of the association in view of the new EU sport policy work plan (2018-2020) and the challenges of Brexit.

Professor Richard Parrish, Director of the Centre for Sports Law Research and Sport&EU honorary chair, commented on being selected to host the 2018 conference: “We are extremely honoured to host the Sport&EU conference back in the United Kingdom, where it all started. It will be an excellent time to discuss EU sport policy and law, just two years after the Brexit referendum and one year from the cut-off date of the Article 50 negotiations. We have proposed Sport&EU a very ambitious bid, we want this 2018 conference to be the largest in the association’s history. Edge Hill University boasts an awarding winning campus with world class teaching and sports facilities, including accommodation, and we are working in putting together a very attractive and affordable package to entice delegates from around Europe and the rest of the world to come to the Liverpool region”.

The local organising committee of our 2018 conference is already working on the programme and format of the conference. A new addition for 2018 will be the opportunity to attend the Summer School on EU Sport Law and Policy, which will be scheduled  in combination with the conference.

A call for papers, posters and contributions will be out in the autumn, so keep an eye on the association’s mailing list. If you are not a member, join us to keep informed.

We would encourage Sport&EU members to already put the dates already in their diary. We really look forward to seeing many of you at Edge Hill University in 2018.
