gran-via_1072541We are pleased to announce that our 2016 annual conference will take place in Madrid on 27 and 28 June 2016. This will be the first time our flagship event takes place in south-western Europe, and the first time it is hosted in Spain. The local organisers will be the Institute of European Studies and the Centre for Competition Law of San Pablo-CEU University in Madrid, under the coordination of Professor Jerónimo Maillo. The conference will take place under our usual two-day format in the beautiful campus of San Pablo-CEU University in central Madrid, very close to most commercial and tourist areas.

The conference will have three main areas of interst, which will feature in the call for papers: Sport and European identity, sport governance and legal regulation of Sport in Europe. In a time of growing activity in EU sports law and policy, our annual conference will be the perfect event to share new ideas and approaches to the study of sport in the European Union.

Professor Richard Parrish, honorary chair of Sport&EU commented on the selection of Madrid to host the 2016 conference: “We are delighted to take our annual event to southern Europe once again, this demonstrates once more our commitment to support the academic community accross the continent. I am sure the Madrid conference will be another success, and I hope to see there many members of the association next year”. Professor Jerónimo Maillo, the local coordinator, is eager to receive Sport & EU delegates: “We are really happy to have the opportunity to organise the first Sport&EU conference in Spain. Our centre for European studies and our centre for competition law research will be the perfect venue to debate about the ongoing challenges to sport in Europe. We are going to work really hard to make of this the best Sport&EU conference to date. We are honoured to be given the opportunity and I really hope to see all of you in Madrid next summer”.

A call for papers for the conference will be distributed very soon. We would encourage members of the association to pencil in the dates of the conference already, to ensure they have no clashes come next summer. We look forward to seeing many of you in Madrid in 2016.
